How to dose Rid-X Holding Tank Deodorizer Pacs
Step 1
Know your tank
Find the size of the holding tank in gallons, from 20 to 50.
Step 2
Count the pacs
One pac for 20, 30 or 40 gallons. Two pacs for 50 gallons.
Step 3
Add it to the tank
Drop the pac into the holding tank with the fresh water for its size.
What it does
Counting pacs instead of measuring ounces
The pacs give you the Rid-X holding tank deodorizer in counted doses, so the only thing you measure is the water. A tank of 20, 30 or 40 gallons takes one pac, and a 50 gallon tank takes two. Each dose goes in with fresh water by tank size, from half a gallon for 20 gallons up to 1.25 gallons for 50.
A box holds 8 pacs. If your tank is 40 gallons or smaller, that box lasts eight treatments. On a 50 gallon tank it lasts half as long, because you use two at a time. The maker credits the pacs with bacteria, enzymes and a fresh scent, and says they break down waste and tissue. You will use them in holding tanks on RVs, boats and portable toilets.
- 8 pacs in the box, counted rather than poured
- One pac for a 20, 30 or 40 gallon tank
- Two pacs for a 50 gallon tank
- Added with fresh water measured by tank size
- Each pac carries a fresh scent, the maker says, plus bacteria and enzymes
If the Holding Tank Deodorizer Pacs does not suit your tank, the rv and holding tank treatment shelf has 1 more product from the Rid-X treatment line.
Directions and best results
- Check the size of your holding tank in gallons.
- Take one pac for 20 to 40 gallons, or two pacs for 50 gallons.
- Put the pac in the holding tank along with the fresh water for its size.
- Use 1.25 gallons of water for a 50 gallon tank and half a gallon for 20.
For best results
- Count both pacs on a 50 gallon tank, because a single pac there gives half the labeled dose.
- Close the box after each use, put it out of reach of children and pets, and follow the label.
- Do not add other holding tank chemicals at the same time as the pacs.

Safety and sources
Empty a treated holding tank only at an RV dump station, a sewer hookup or through a pumper. The EPA alert for RV owners warns that some holding tank deodorizers contain formaldehyde, which can kill the bacteria of a septic tank, so ask before you dump a treated tank into a home system.
Questions
About Rid-X Holding Tank Deodorizer Pacs
How many Rid-X holding tank pacs do you need?
One pac for a 20, 30 or 40 gallon holding tank, and two for a 50 gallon tank. Add the fresh water for your size along with it, from half a gallon at 20 gallons up to 1.25 gallons at 50.
How long will a box of 8 Rid-X pacs last you?
Eight treatments if your tank holds 40 gallons or less, since each takes one pac. On a 50 gallon tank every treatment uses two, so the same box covers four. Pack a spare box before a long trip if your tank is the larger size.
Do you add water with Rid-X holding tank pacs?
Yes. The pacs use the same fresh water column as the liquid: 0.50 gallon for a 20 gallon tank, 0.75 for 30, 1.00 for 40 and 1.25 for 50. Counting a pac saves you measuring liquid, not measuring water.
